Let me feel you," as though he's actively asking her to come out and meet him. I could be doing so much more out there if I wanted to." A male voice even replies in the middle of the track, with the lines "Let me see you, you look great when you smile. There's also a wistfulness to the song, an errant thought of: "Ah. I too wish to spend all day in my room as an escape from the realities of the outside world, and have repeatedly wished that I could remain within the comfort and safety of my own space instead of having to face a daunting existence beyond the walls of my room.

As a home body myself growing up, this song speaks to me on a spiritual level. The song is literally about what it says on the title: spending the day in my room. My favourite track off the album is easily In My Room its dreamlike production mixed with Moonbyul's lower tone is just such a good combination, and perfectly captures the essence of a day spent lying on your bed with your thoughts running a mile a minute. The title track was great too, boasting an amazing collab between Seulgi and Moonbyul that was probably the height of the girl-crush fantasy back in 2018. Moonbyul's SELFISH was such a good release, and I wish it'd gotten more legs than it did when it came out. It's still brash in places, like during the bridge when they drunkenly chant "Everyone who's clumsy at love say ya everyone who's had a hard time breaking up say ya", and even in the chorus when they proudly proclaim "I'll be the bad guy" like they expect someone to give them an award for acknowledging their mistakes, but the details hidden in the lyrics make the song feel honest and real, and brings me back to those pains in relationships I've navigated growing up, where you've put in all that emotion and energy into it only for it to come crumbling down around you, and then having that realisation in hindsight that it was maybe all your fault that it failed. When friendship rather than attachment became more important to me, I wanted us to break up" is such a fascinating way of talking about losing feelings, with all the expectations of the highs, and the inexperience of youth ignoring the work you have to put in to actually make a relationship work. The lines "When we became used to the butterflies, we knew of love as attachment. It's honest about the mess up, it's raw in a way you don't really get to hear in songs about relationships anymore. The frustration, the remorse, the realisation that the other party was definitely better off without them: what's a little growing up without some regrets? I've always found songs that talk about living with no regrets a little disingenuous because it's always felt a little like posturing iKON's Jerk is the absolute anti-thesis to that mentality. Even without getting into the lyrics, just from the title and the various English lines, you could tell what the song is about: messing up in a relationship and wishing you could go back and fix it. And then in the middle, right before the bridge with the high note and the claps, followed by the call and response? This song is absolutely gorgeous and such a good and easy listen.

The moment those first chords hit at the beginning of the song I immediately knew this was going to become my favourite track on the album. When I first heard this song, I think I was giving iKON's Return album a listen, since I liked Love Scenario a decent amount. So in no order of merit (because I honestly couldn't rank them), on to the list!Ī Supplementary Story: You Never Walk Alone - BTS

I think it'll become pretty apparent in the list.Īnother disclaimer: I'm neither a music major, nor a native korean speaker, so I'm sorry ahead of time if I get anything wrong! A lot of these lyric translations I'm just getting from top google searches so yeah feel free to correct me if you spot any errors. So I'm sure each of these artists have better suited music to the overall theme, but these are just the ones that came into my life at the right time, or have stuck with me for various reasons. I've been feeling very nostalgic for my teens as the new year begins, so as a start to 2021, I thought I'd take some time to pen some of my favourite Kpop songs that make me nostalgic for younger days.Ī couple of disclaimers: I don't actively stan a lot of these groups, these are just the tracks that came into my life from various artists that make me wish I could re-experience growing up with the kind of fondness and joy and love and grief that the songs portray.
